June 2nd Update
Stingray Families,
We wish that we could share better news; however, we are continuing to see delays with getting in the pool. Based on our meeting with the HOA on Monday, we still have a few obstacles to overcome to get in the pool.
Bottom line, the HOA and our insurance provider could not come to an agreement on certain verbiage in the policy. Details below, otherwise skip the next paragraph!
DETAILS: Please remember that we are not attorneys and the information being presented is not based on our legal opinion. The SPRAI attorneys have come to the conclusion that the extra COVID-19 waiver that the HOA will be requiring to enter any and all SPRAI swimming facilities both for recreational use and league use is an indication of elevated risk and by requiring such a document to be signed is an admission as such. Therefore, SPRAI requested that our policy underwriter include in the verbiage of the policy that a claim based on COVID-19 would not be immediately denied because a waiver was signed. This request was not accepted by the policy underwriter.
We are currently looking for other insurance options, including asking for help from our SPA friends on this matter as their insurance carrier seems to be more willing to comply with SPRAI’s request. At this point, we do not know if they, the insurance carrier, would be willing to write a policy for a summer swim program. We also don’t know the cost associated with such a policy.
We were disappointed to hear this news on Monday, however, we trust that everyone is doing their best to navigate through these changes. Swimmers, coaches, and families have shown such wonderful patience through this, and we desperately want to make this work. We understand that we cannot stay in limbo too much longer, and so, we will have a final decision on whether we’ll be having a season by Friday, June 5th. Please note that if we cancel the season, all will receive a full refund.
Thank you all for your support!
